TABLE ROCK PHOTOS
|
|
I took a photo of those mysterious Brown Mountain Lights. This shot is of Table Rock, taken from Weisman's View about a mile across the Linville River gorge. I used a 15 second exposure time. It's amazing that I knew how to do that since I bought the camera exactly one week before this picture was taken. Click on the photo for a higher resolution view. This photo is ©2003 Bill Fox. |

Since I took the above photo, I have never seen anything bright or long lasting enough to photograph... until Monday, June 8, 2009. This next shot is of a light down on the river to the south of Table Rock. It was on fairly constantly for a good long while. It may have been multiple lights at times and there definitely was some movement. This was the night after the full moon but the moon wasn't high enough in the sky to light the river so this photo doesn't show the location the way the Table Rock photos (yes, more of those to come!) are able to show a back lit mountain. From the same location, here is a shot of what appears to be three lights when the naked eye only saw one. Click on the photo for a full sized view. This photo is ©2009 Bill Fox. |

While the red light in the gorge was putting on a show, another light appeared on the right (south) side of Table Rock. At times it was blinking on and off and changing colors. It stayed fairly stationary but moved about a little bit. Click on the photo for a full sized view. This photo is ©2009 Bill Fox. |

This light kept on for quite a while. Here's yet another view. It was dimmer in this shot so I adjusted the thumbnail's color balance a little bit. But the full rez shot, as always is the raw, unadjusted original. Click on the photo for a full sized view. This photo is ©2009 Bill Fox. |

In 2013, I met Michael Kight who met up with Bob and me at Wiseman's View. We advised him what we went through in order to capture the lights. But Michael is a REAL photographer who has professional gear. He took a series of photos that I consider to be ART. I used a series of his shots of Table Rock and made a GIF animation of a light shooting off the north corner. Click here to view it. |
